July 24, 2012

Troy Allen, associate professor of aviation, will serve as acting dean for the College of Graduate and Professional Studies for the fall semester.

Graduate and Professional Studies Dean Jay Gatrell was selected as an American Council on Education fellow and will spend the fall semester working at Bellarmine University in Louisville. Allen begins the acting dean duties on Aug. 6.

"I am pleased that Troy has agreed to assume leadership for this important role," said Provost Jack Maynard. "I am confident he will provide great service in Jay's absence."

Allen currently serves as assistant dean of the College of Graduate and Professional Studies. From 2008 to 2010, he also worked as a faculty fellow in the college.

"I am pleased that Troy agreed to serve as acting dean," Gatrell said. "More importantly, I am confident he will do an outstanding job serving our students as he is familiar not only with the role of the college but is committed to high quality graduate education."

Allen joined Indiana State in 2002 and has taught aviation administration and professional pilot courses. He earned his bachelor's and Ph.D. degrees from Indiana State and his master's from Embry -Riddle Aeronautical University. Allen also has more than 20 years of aviation experience. He previously worked as an inspector and project manager for the Indiana Department of Transportation's Aeronautics Section.

"I am honored to be selected to serve the university community in this role and excited to advance graduate education at ISU," Allen said.
