TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State University will host its annual Family Day on Saturday, Sept. 26. This event is an opportunity for ISU students to show their appreciation for the important role that families play in their education and their lives. It's also an opportunity for families to see their student's new home away from home.
From 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. there will be a Favorite Recipe Brunch, open to all parents and families of both residential and commuter students. The menu includes a self-serve breakfast/lunch buffet. Tickets are $8 per person and can be purchased at the door. ISU students may use their meal plan.
The ISU bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the purchase of T-shirts, sweatshirts and books. Families can also access board games and play pool at Sycamore Lounge, located in Hulman Memorial Student Union, from noon to 4 p.m.
The fun isn't just confined to campus. Families are invited to come out to Memorial Stadium to cheer on the Sycamores as they take on Youngstown State.
Festivities kick off with a tailgate cookout 10-11:30 a.m. For $11 per person attendees will receive a meal and football game ticket. There is no charge for children ages 5 and under. Current ISU students will need to pay for their meal only since they can attend the game at no cost by showing their Sycamore ID card. Tickets for the tailgate cookout need to be ordered by the Sept. 18 registration deadline.
For those not participating in the tailgate cookout, individual tickets for the football game will be available at the Memorial Stadium ticket office at a cost of $9 for adults and $3 for youth ages 6-18.
The Indiana State bookstore will sponsor an ice cream social from 4-6 p.m. in Hulman Memorial Student Union. Families will have a chance to meet Sycamore Sam and get a family portrait with him. While at the Student Union, check out Team Sycamore Racing, ISU's student-run racing team, and test your reaction time on the team's simulator.
Various departments and organizations will host open houses throughout the day. Attendees are encouraged to check the schedule at the Family Day registration and information table for times and locations.
All residence halls will have open houses from 3-5 p.m. to provide families a chance to see their student's home away from home as well as learn about the services offered to students.
Families are invited to enjoy the gospel sounds of the Ebony Majestic Choir as they practice, from 4-6 p.m. in Hulman Memorial Student Union, Dede I.
The newly-opened Student Recreation Center will be a popular stop on campus by many during Family Day festivities. Families are invited to step inside the facility and learn about all the recreational opportunities available to their student during tours running from 4-6 p.m.
The daylong schedule of activities caps off with the ISU women's volleyball team in action against Creighton at 6 p.m. ISU students can attend the game free of charge by showing their student ID card. Family Day participant tickets are $1 with coupon. Ticket coupons are available at the Family Day registration and information tables.
