Ã¢â‚¬Å“Beginning Basket WeavingÃ¢â‚¬Â will introduce the basics of basket weaving, including under-over weaving, twining, rimming, and lashing. No prior skills are required. Participants will complete a footed napkin basket during the three-hour session. Students need to bring a two gallon pail, towel, tape measure, scissors, pencil, and spray bottle. The course is offered from 5:30-8:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 20 in room 207 of the Family and Consumer Sciences Building. Jean Wright and Arlene Jennings will instruct the course. There is a fee of $35 for the course and a $15 materials fee, payable at the Sept. 20 class time.
Are you thinking about buying a digital camera' Have you recently bought one, and are wondering where to begin'Ã¢â‚¬Â The course Ã¢â‚¬Å“Every Pixel Tells a StoryÃ¢â‚¬Â is a verbal instruction manual on digital basics- camera controls, what you can and canÃ¢â‚¬â„¢t do with your digital camera.
It will cover accessories, flash, removing red eye, pixel size, and cropping. YouÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ll learn to import images into the computer and what can be done with them after. You are encouraged to bring any equipment you have. The first course is offered from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Oct. 2-23. The second course is offered from 6:30-8:30 p.m., Tuesdays, Oct. 30-Nov. 20. Both classes will be conducted at MicÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s Pics, 670 East Springhill Drive in Terre Haute. Mic Orman will instruct the course. There is a fee of $45 per class.
Ã¢â‚¬Å“Art Smart Basics for KidsÃ¢â‚¬Â is designed for young artists, ages 7 to 12 interested in basic drawing, painting, and collage. The course is offered from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturdays, Sept. 15-Oct. 20 in room 103 of the Family and Consumer Sciences Building. Connie Claypoole Maxwell will instruct the course. There is a fee of $60.
Indiana State is offering non-credit language and culture courses in Arabic and Spanish this spring.
Farooq AlTameemy, instructor, will teach basic Arabic daily life conversations in Ã¢â‚¬Å“Conversational Arabic I.Ã¢â‚¬Â Classes will start from zero level of Arabic comprehension. You will learn to read and write the alphabet, vocabulary and simple sentences. The focus will be on using these in daily life conversations. This course is offered 5-6:30 p.m., Mondays, Sept. 10-Nov. 12 in Root Hall, room A-110. There is a fee of $125.
Ã¢â‚¬Å“Conversational Arabic IIÃ¢â‚¬Â is designed as a continuation of Conversational Arabic, or for those who already have a little knowledge of Arabic. In this class students will learn sentences and expressions taken from daily life and more about the Arabian culture. By the end of the class, you will be able to read some Arabic and write what is dictated by the instructor, as well as look for meanings in the dictionary. This course is offered 5-6:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Sept. 12-Nov. 14 in Root Hall, room A-112. AlTameemy will instruct the course. There is a fee of $125.
Come and learn the basics of Spanish, a language that is becoming more popular and useful each day. In Ã¢â‚¬Å“Conversational Spanish for BeginnersÃ¢â‚¬Â learn about different cultures while learning Spanish. Be able to have a conversation when you travel to any of the 20 Spanish-speaking countries. This course is offered 5:30-7:30 p.m., Wednesdays, Sept. 12-Dec. 12 in Root Hall, room A-109. Alexandra McNichols will instruct the course. There is a fee of $198.
A variety of recreation classes are being offered ranging from youth racquetball, social dancing, martial arts, to scuba diving. Other classes, such as the ASP/CSP examination preparation course, an online health center activity director course and basics of AutoCad, automated computer design, are also available this fall.
