These works will be presented together for the first time in an exhibit that broadens the notion of portraiture and includes works in painting, photography, photogravure, wood, ceramics, prints and mixed media.
The show, curated by John Lustig, will feature Ã¢â‚¬Å“MaoÃ¢â‚¬Â by Andy Warhol; works by Leonard Baskin, Philip Pearlstein and Felix Gonzales-Torres; a portrait of William Turman painted by the Swope Art MuseumÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s first director, John R. Cox; as well as local contemporary artists Lou Williams and Amy MacLennan.
Other featured artists include Rudy Autio, Bernard Buffet, George Constant, Mathilde de Cordoba, Jose Luis Cuevas, Boris Deutsch, Leonardo Fini, Tony Fitzpatrick, Franz Gertsch, Marie Jessie Goth, Irving Guyer, Peter Holbrook, Jed Jackson, Max Kahn , Eduardo Pao, George Rouault, James Rosenquist, Dorothy Rutka, John Siblik, Andrian Slager III, Dox Thrash, Harry Wann and Chris Ware.
The University Art Gallery is located in the Center for Performing and Fine Arts at the corner of Chestnut and Seventh streets. Summer gallery hours are 12-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
