Awards presented at Research Showcase

Indiana State University students had an opportunity to share their research and compete for awards during the 2007 Undergraduate and Graduate Research Showcase (on April 11) sponsored by the School of Graduate Studies.

The students presented poster or paper presentations on their research in three categories: earth/physical science and technology, life/medical science, and education/business/social science.

In earth/physical science and technology, Jessica Adamic, a master’s student in geology from North Branch, Mich., received the best graduate poster award; while Ellen Brouillette, a senior geology major from Vincennes, took home the award for the best undergraduate poster.

A trio of chemistry majors swept the undergraduate paper presentation category. First place went to Rachael Chase, a senior from Freelandville; while second place went to Stephanie Braun, a sophomore from Decatur; and third place to Ryan Galloway, a junior from Terre Haute.

In life/medical science, the best undergraduate poster presentation went to Ashley Whitehead, a sophomore from Benton, Ill. Heather Karstens, a sophomore from Medaryville, placed second. Both are life sciences majors.

The best graduate poster was awarded to Deepak Kumar, a master’s student in life sciences from Hyderabad, India; while second place went to Samantha Colayori, a master’s student in ecology and organismal biology from Rochester, N.Y.

In the education/business/social science category, the best graduate poster went to Chelsea Weyand, a master’s student in psychology from Terre Haute; while the best graduate paper was awarded to Martha Shelton, a master’s student in family and consumer sciences from Terre Haute.

Pornsook Tantrarungroj, a master’s student in curriculum, instruction, and media technology from Bangkok, Thailand, received second place for his graduate poster. The best undergraduate poster was awarded to Thomas Baker, a master’s student in psychology from Terre Haute.
