TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - State Farm earned the Philanthropy Award for its commitment to philanthropy and philanthropic volunteerism April 20 as part of the Indiana State University Foundation’s annual Philanthropy Awards Dinner in Hulman Memorial Student Union.
Formerly known as the university’s Distinguished Service Award, this honor recognizes State Farm’s impact on the quality of education at Indiana State, particularly in regard to the College of Business and key programs such as insurance and risk management and management information systems.
“State Farm’s partnership sets an example for corporate leadership across the campus of Indiana State University,†said ISU Foundation President Gene Crume. “Their relationship with ISU is one of both philanthropy and volunteerism, as dozens of State Farm professionals have given of their time and talent through personal involvement with this institution.â€Â
This is exactly what distinguishes State Farm from other corporate partners, according to Mary Ann Boose, program coordinator and professor of insurance and risk management at Indiana State.
“State Farm is backed by caring individuals who go the extra mile for our students, and not just monetarily†Boose said. “They offer students opportunities for experiential learning, provide scholarships that attract academically talented students to our nationally recognized programs, and they donate countless hours to the university by serving as mentors, Insurance Advisory Council members and in other vital roles.â€Â
For nearly 20 years, State Farm has enjoyed a strong relationship with ISU which has led to success for both students and the company. Their motto has been that an investment in ISU is an investment in people, their industry and in the Terre Haute community.
As a result of State Farm’s philanthropic support, the College of Business has received scholarship support for its top-notch management information systems and insurance and risk management programs. The company has also provided funding for student development, summer internships, technology needs, student organizations, executives in residence and dollars for MIS to host its annual high school competition. In addition, State Farm has committed resources to form the College of Business’ Career Experience Center and to assist in development of the financial trading floor.
The ISU Foundation presents this award annually to a deserving corporation or foundation which, through their strong financial support or coordinated volunteer efforts, have worked with Indiana State, and emerged as a leader in corporate philanthropy.
Individuals receiving the award this year were Dale McKee, executive vice president emeritus of the ISU Foundation, and Sheron Dailey, professor emerita of communication.
