Indiana State University is pleased to join the Vigo County Public Library and its partners in "The Big Read," an event designed to restore reading to the center of American Culture. Currently, 72 communities throughout the country are encouraging literary reading through the National Endowment for the Arts' "The Big Read" programming from January through June 2007. Vigo County is one of only four communities in Indiana who are participating.
The book selected for Vigo County is "The Great Gatsby" by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Members of the community are invited to get a copy of "The Great Gatsby" at any VCPL branch, and attend book discussions and programs throughout the month of March, including the following:
Ã¢â‚¬Â¢ Fitzgerald Scholar Matthew Bruccoli, 7 p.m., Thursday, March 22 at ISU's Hulman Center Ã¢â‚¬â€œ Meeting Room Level
Sponsored by the ISU Department of English's Joseph Schick Lecture Series
Dr. Bruccoli is the Emily Brown Jefferies Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the University of South Carolina. He is widely regarded as the foremost expert on F. Scott Fitzgerald and has written or edited 30 volumes on Fitzgerald, including the standard biography, "Some Sort of Epic Grandeur: The Life of F. Scott Fitzgerald." A reception will follow the presentation.
