Peter M. Jonas will discuss Ã¢â‚¬Å“The Power of Formative AssessmentÃ¢â‚¬Â from 1 Ã¢â‚¬â€œ 2:30 p.m. March 20 in Cunningham Memorial LibraryÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s main browsing section. Jonas is associate professor and chair of the doctoral program in leadership for the advancement of learning and service in the College of Education at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee.
Jonas will offer tips about methods faculty can use to quickly determine what students are learning. Ample time will be provided for questions following his presentation, which is free and open to the public.
A faculty member at Cardinal Stritch University for more than 20 years, Jonas teaches in the areas of research, leadership, and technology. From 1990 to 1997, he served as assistant dean and assistant professor in the College of Business at Stritch. He has also served as director of institutional research, director of assessment and strategic planning, and a faculty member at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Marquette University, and the College of St. Francis.
Actively involved in consulting for the past 15 years, Jonas has made more than 50 presentations about assessment and student success at national conferences. In addition, he has written numerous books and manuals and more than 40 articles in professional journals. Jonas holds a doctorate and masterÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s degree in history from Marquette and a bachelor of arts in history and social science from Carthage College.
