Participants will arrive at ISU on Friday evening and take part in auditions that will determine their placement inside the Honors Wind Ensemble or Symphonic Band. The groups will rehearse Friday evening, all day Saturday, and Sunday morning before the concert. During these times, the students will have the opportunity to not only practice together, but also work in smaller groups with ISU music faculty.
The conductors for the 2006 All-Star Band Weekend include Doug Keiser, associate director of bands at ISU; and William Wakefield, director of bands, ensemble division coordinator and professor of music at the University of Oklahoma.
Wakefield, who also serves as president-elect of the College Band Directors National Association, served as director of bands at ISU from 1980-1984.
Students were nominated by their high school band directors and chosen on the basis of their musical ability and needed instrumentation.
Admission to the concert is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the music department at (812) 237-2772.
