What: Community Health Fair

When: Friday, March 3 from 4-8 p.m.

Where: Landsbaum Center for Health Education, located at 1433 North 6th Street

Indiana University School of Medicine-Terre Haute, Indiana State University's College of Nursing, ISU's Rowe Center for Communication Disorders, ISU's Family and Consumer Sciences, ISU psychology department, ISU athletic training, Ivy Tech Community College respiratory therapy department, Butler University pharmacy department, the Mental Health Association and Wal-Mart will offer screenings for:

Body Mass Index (BMI)
Lung Capacity
Blood Pressure
Blood Glucose
Lead Poison
Bone density

Faculty and students from the Ivy Tech massage therapy program will be giving mini shoulder and neck massages.

In addition to visiting more than 45 community agencies exhibiting at the event, the public will get an opportunity to see the latest technology used to train healthcare professionals - Stan, the METI human patient simulator.

There will be plenty of activities to keep children busy. The IU School of Medicine-Terre Haute Medical students will offer a children's activity area with a Stufee, a stuffed human body with internal organs can be removed, puzzles, activities using microscopes, body tracing and labeling of major organs and body systems, and a "Picture Yourself in a Health Career" booth where children can dress up as health care professionals and get their picture taken. The Union Hospital Family Medicine Center will read stories to children as part of its Read Out and Read Program. The Vigo County Sheriff's Department will be on hand to provide fingerprint records to parents.

Healthy Snacks will be provided by Baesler's Market.

This event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by Indiana University School of Medicine-Terre Haute, West Central Indiana Area Health Education Center, Indiana State University, ISU College of Nursing, Indiana State Medical Association - Medical Students and the Vigo County Health Department.
