The Young Professional Award recognizes a younger member of IAHPERD who has demonstrated outstanding potential in teaching, scholarship and service.
Zakrajsek teaches courses in sport psychology at ISU where she serves as the coordinator for the Master's Coaching Education Program and chair of the Coaching Education Curriculum Committee. She also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Sport Rehabilitation and Athletic Insight: The Online Journal of Sport Psychology. Her work has been published in the Journal of Coaching Education and in Athletic Insight.
"Rebecca is fulfilling the promise that we saw when we selected her as a faculty member in our department," said Jeffrey Edwards, acting chair of physical education for ISU's College of Nursing, Health, and Human Services. "She had had an immediate positive impact on our curriculum, our students and our faculty."
A technology mini-grant will enable Zakrajsek to study biofeedback as a tool to maximize student learning of mental skills. She has also presented interactive community workshops as part of a performance enhancement workshop series and has consulted with several teams at the collegiate level focusing on performance enhancement and mental skills training.
Zakrajsek will be honored at an awards banquet on Nov. 14.during the annual IAHPERD conference in Indianapolis.
IAHPERD is a professional education association dedicated to promoting quality health, physical education, recreation, dance, sport and allied programming in schools and communities throughout the state.
