Brian Hasler has been named executive assistant to the president for external relations at Indiana State University, interim President C. Jack Maynard announced.
A former member of the Indiana General Assembly and former aide to three Congressmen, Hasler - an ISU alumnus - will serve as the university's principal liaison to members of the state legislature, the Indiana Congressional delegation, Terre Haute city officials and other governmental agencies.
"We are fortunate to have found someone with Brian's experience and knowledge to fill this important position in the university administration. Much of the progress that Indiana State has made in recent years in providing up to date facilities for students and faculty and in serving the university's economic development role could not have been accomplished without support from government officials at all levels. With his experience in both the state and federal arenas, and as an ISU alumnus, Brian brings a wealth of background and perspective to this position," Maynard said.
"I am honored to have the opportunity to come back to Indiana State and participate in the growth of this great institution," Hasler said. "I look forward to working with our new president, Dan Bradley, the Board of Trustees and the faculty in advancing Indiana State as a premiere opportunity for the training and education of our state's greatest resource."
An Indianapolis resident, Hasler formerly lived in Evansville, Terre Haute and Farmersburg. From 1996 to 2004, he represented a portion of the Evansville area in the Indiana House of Representatives, serving as chairman of the technology, research and development committee. He was an aide to former U.S. Reps. Lee Hamilton of Indiana, Bill Patman of Texas and Frank McCloskey of Indiana, for whom he worked as district office manager and later as director of economic development.
Most recently, he was employed by Brandwidth, a Carmel-based integrated marketing firm, and Beebe Scherer & Associates of Indianapolis, which provides governmental relations services.
Hasler is a 1980 graduate of Indiana State with a bachelor's degree in political science. He has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the Private Industry Council Legislative Award in 1999, the Techpoint MIRA Trailblazer Award in 2004 and the Indiana State Chamber of Commerce Government Leader of the Year Award, also in 2004.
He will begin his new duties with Indiana State Monday (July 21). He fills a position left vacant when Greg Goode of Terre Haute announced his resignation earlier this year to run for Congress from Indiana's 8th District.
