“Camp directors from across Indiana will be looking to fill a wide range of seasonal positions, such as nurse; nature study leader; maintenance crew; and instructors in a variety of areas including lifeguard/boating, sports, music, drama/theater, equine and ropes course,†said Nathan Schaumleffel, assistant professor of recreation and sport management at ISU, and American Camp Association advisory committee member. “These jobs are particularly good for college students to gain experience in their major; and there is a job for almost every major at camp.â€Â
The job fair will be held from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. in ISU’s Hulman Memorial Student Union in rooms Dede II and Dede III. Job-seekers are encouraged to bring their resumes, as interviews can happen on-site, and attire is business casual.
The Summer Camp Job Fair is one component of a larger three-day event at ISU for camp professionals and students to network and receive training and orientation in their field.
On Nov. 7, there will be a new director orientation workshop and standards training.
“The new director orientation is a special session for seasonal or new camp directors, assistant directors, program directors, or persons that have been in other administrative positions and are considering directing camp next summer,†Schaumleffel said. “This is an overview of all the aspects of the director’s job, with the primary focus on the summer operation.â€Â
The standards course will explain how the ACA standards and accreditation process works.
On Nov. 8, in addition to the job fair and social networking opportunities, there will be four sessions running concurrently: “Getting a Bigger Bang for Your Staff Training Buck: Getting Staff to Perform All Summer,†“Issues and Trends in Challenge Course Technology: Accreditation, Credentialing, and Accessibility,†“Leading Successful Activities†and “Camp Nursing.â€Â
On Nov. 9, camp professionals will speak in a variety of recreation and sport management classes: Public Park and Recreation Administration, Recreation and Sport Management, and Nonprofit Management. A tour of the ISU Field Campus in Brazil will conclude the event.
The registration deadline for the professional workshops is Nov. 4, 2007. To register, contact Anna Weigand of ACA-Indiana at email@example.com.
