Police confiscated the rope at approximately 12:30 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 25), after receiving a call from someone who noticed it in the tree. It had been removed from the tree prior to the arrival of police.
Ã¢â‚¬Å“While we encourage people not to overreact, we are interpreting this as an act of hatred and intimidation and will not tolerate it. We ask that anyone with any information regarding this incident contact the Office of Public Safety to assist them in their investigation,Ã¢â‚¬Â said C. Jack Maynard, provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.
Counseling for students upset by the incident is available through the Student Counseling Center. Student Affairs personnel are also engaged in a dialogue with student leaders regarding the incident, Maynard said.
ISU officials have notified local law enforcement authorities and the FBI about the incident. Individuals with any information regarding this incident should contact the Office of Public Safety (812) 237-5555.

Indiana State University police are investigating an incident involving a rope fashioned in a manner resembling a noose which was reported to have been in a tree outside of Hines Hall in the center of campus.
