About MAMEIS

MAMEIS - the Midwest Association for Middle East and Islamic Studies - was founded in 1999 by Dr. Robert Hunter as a network of scholars promoting the study of the Middle East and Islamic world on university campuses throughout the Midwest. MAMEIS is a registered non-profit institution chartered by Indiana State University, and as such does not seek to propagate any specific religious or political viewpoints of any kind but seeks to advance scholarly knowledge and improve inter-cultural understanding. The primary aims of MAMEIS are to foster connections between faculty members, staff and other professionals and share information about regional news and events related to the study of the Middle East and Islamic world. To this end, the MAMEIS maintains a listserv and social networking accounts to provide a forum for scholars to connect with colleagues in the region.

Membership

Membership is open to faculty, staff, graduate students and certain pre-collegiate educators at accredited colleges and universities and other centers of research in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Associate and Institutional Memberships are also available for those with a professional interest in the Middle East. MAMEIS is governed by a President and an Executive Board consisting of five elected members on staggered two year terms. An annual conference will be held at a member institution each Spring to share research and develop ties between the community of Middle East and Islamic Studies scholars and professionals spread throughout the Midwest.

Conference Registration

An annual conference, held at a member institution each Spring, is an important part of MAMEIS' mission to promote a scholarly network of Middle East and Islamic Studies scholars in the Midwest. The 2013 MAMEIS Annual Conference was held April 6th, 2013 on the campus of Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Ind. A call for papers for the 2014 conference will be released in December 2013. Please check back at the MAMEIS website in December or subscribe to the MAMEIS listserv for updates and further information.
