Established in 1865, Indiana State University is a four-year public university that integrates teaching, research, and creative activity in an engaging, challenging, and supportive learning environment to prepare productive citizens of the world. Located in Southwest Indiana, Indiana State University is conveniently located 10 minutes from I-70 making trips to Indianapolis, St. Louis, Chicago and Cincinnati easily accessible. Indiana State University sits in the central part of downtown Terre Haute making the commute to shopping, food, housing, arts, sports and entertainment within 15 minutes to campus.

U.S. News Best Colleges rankings describe Indiana State University as pedestrian friendly and beautifully landscaped, and been it has been recognized by Princeton Review as one the most environmentally responsible colleges. As a medium size public university, Indiana State University is known to have one of the most diverse student populations in the State of Indiana. With approximately 12,000 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate students, our minority student population is nearly 25%. Indiana State University continues to grow in enrollment and is committed to student development, leadership, and success.

Located in a park-like setting in downtown Terre Haute, Indiana State University has the facilities, diversity and distinctive academic programs associated with large universities, but with the atmosphere of a small, close-knit campus.

CAMPUS SECURITY CRIME STATISTICS: The Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act require that crime statistics for Indiana colleges and universities be made available to applicants upon request. Indiana State’s combined Annual Security and Annual Fire Safety Report includes statistics for the previous three years concerning reported crimes that occurred on campus, in certain off-campus buildings owned or controlled by the University, and on public property within or immediately adjacent to and accessible from the campus. The report also includes institutional policies concerning campus security, such as those concerning alcohol and drug use, crime prevention, the reporting of crimes, sexual assault, and other matters. Mission Statement

The Human Resource mission is to provide quality services and support in employment, training, employee relations, employee assistance, immigration, benefits and compensation to those we serve while meeting all regulatory and legal standards in accordance with University policies and ethics as human resource professionals.

Human Resource staff will promote excellence in customer service by being responsive, knowledgeable and sensitive to the needs of ISU students, faculty, staff, candidates and the community at large in a pleasant, professional and efficient manner.

Vision Statement

With the use of technology and the promotion of excellence in customer service HR will:

  • Recruit committed and motivated faculty and staff
  • Provide training and development opportunities for professional and personal growth,
  • Act as an employee advocate with regard to fair treatment, problem solving and morale,
  • Continually improve department performance through research, planning and assessment,
  • Maintain and provide accurate and comprehensive records for HR decision making, personnel actions, planning and policy making,
  • Recommend and administer efficient use of limited financial resources to provide compensation and benefits that are competitive in appropriate markets,
  • Assist in strategic planning and serve as a change agent within the university, and
  • Establish goals and objectives for total compensation and benefits that allow for accountability within the practices, provide a means to ensure consistent application of plans, support the non-discrimination policy of the institution and legally defend plans and decisions.
