21st Century Scholars

The 21st Century Scholars Program was created to encourage 7th and 8th grade students from Indiana to graduate high school and attend college. Students must sign a pledge to remain drug-free throughout the course of their high school and college career.

Initial Eligibility

To be eligible, the student must:

  • Be enrolled in 12 credit hours of course instruction on the 28th day of class, including summer.
  • Be working toward his or her first bachelor's degree.
  • Have made any FAFSA corrections, such as signatures, by May 15th.
  • Demonstrate significant financial need.
  • Be an Indiana resident.
  • Have submitted an official FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by March 10, with ISU as the first choice school. ISU's school code is 001807.
  • Enroll in the 21st Century Scholars Program while in 7th or 8th grade at an Indiana school. For questions about program eligibility, the student can contact his or her guidance counselor.
  • Enroll in college within one year of graduating from high school.


  • IMPORTANT: Students first entering college during the 2013-2014 academic year or later will be required to meet the following requirements to receive their full award:
    • Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress guidelines;
    • Earn 30 credit hours before the beginning of their second year;
    • Earn 60 credit hours before the beginning of their third year; and
    • Earn 90 credit hours before the beginning of their fourth year.

  • Credits completed during summer terms count toward the credit hour total. Students may wish to take summer classes to to reach the 30 earned hours needed for that year. Summer funding may be limited to federal aid not used in the preceding fall and spring. 21st Century Scholarship will only be available to students who are on track. Students who earn at least 24 hours will be eligible for a reduced award. Students who earn fewer than 24 credit hours will not be eligible for their award.   • Scholars must file a FAFSA each year by Indiana's March 10 deadline and correct any edits by May 15.



  • Pays 100% of regularly assessed tuition and fees at the undergraduate rate.
  • Valid for 8 semesters of full-time enrollment.


Notification and Disbursement


If eligible, the 21st Century Scholars Grant will be listed on the student's award notification as well as posted to the student's MyISU Portal account. Funds are applied directly to the student's ISU account approximately ten days before the start of the applicable semester.
