A Short Video History of the Scott College of Business...
The Indiana Small Business Development Center has named Indiana State University its 2014 Small Business Partner of the Year.
"It's an honor to be recognized by the state," said Brien Smith, dean of the Scott College, where the West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center is housed. "We provide some funding and support them in the ways that we can, but it's the ISBDC that does the heavy lifting to help small businesses."

The 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta and the document's impact are the foundation of a legal seminar planned for Indiana State University.
The "Symposium on the Magna Carta and the Rule of Law" is scheduled for 1-4:30 p.m. Sept. 15 in the Magna Carta Room in Federal Hall. Organizers say the room, a federal courtroom for more than 70 years, is an appropriate setting for the event because of its large triptych mural depicting the signing of the Magna Carta at Runnymeade by King John of England in 1215.
The event is sponsored by the Historical Society of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, the Indiana State Bar Association and the Terre Haute Bar Association. Loretta Rush, chief justice of the Indiana Supreme Court, is among the notable speakers scheduled to participate.

Indiana State University's business degree programs have earned continued accreditation. The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business announced this month that the Scott College has maintained its accreditation. Indiana State's business programs first earned the recognition in 1980 and have continuously maintained accreditation for more than 30 years.
"The AACSB is the gold standard for business accreditation," said Brien Smith, dean of the Scott College. "Only 5 percent of business schools worldwide are accredited by AACSB. To remain accredited is challenging and AACSB presents a high standard. The hard work and commitment is well worth it."
It was a birthday celebration to remember for hundreds of supporters, faculty and students of the Scott College of Business who, on Friday, honored the college's past accomplishments and celebrated the bright future ahead.
"Life is easier when you are part of a network of friends and family, and our network has been significant. Students, alumni, faculty, staff, emeriti, community members, industry partners and others have made our college successful and impactful," Brien Smith, dean of the Scott College of Business, said at a 50th anniversary event. "Since that golden year - 1964-65 - we've prepared generations of students for the role of work, but more importantly, we've prepared them to be strong leaders."
